HYGIENIC REFRIGERATED MOBILE FISH VENDING KIOSK

This hygienic system of fish vending helps in delivering quality fish to the consumers at a reasonable price and to improve the sales and business of the fisherwomen beneficiaries. The refrigeration-enabled kiosk will improve the handling and marketing of the fish without compromising with the hygiene.

As per the MOU signed between ICAR-CIFT and Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF), Dept of Fisheries, Govt of Kerala on 30th Sept 2019, 20 units of Refrigerated Mobile Fish Vending Kiosk are fabricated and installed for the benefit of fisher women activity groups under Theeramythri project in different districts.The modern and hygienic fish vending KIOSK having the capacity to store 100 kg fish in closed chilled chamber under hygienic conditions, which is developed by ICAR-CIFT helps to reduce drudgery in fish vending and to improve the business of 42 fisherwomen beneficiaries across Kerala.

In the year 2021-22 Hygienic Refrigerated Mobile Fish Vending Kiosk project has been implementedby establishing 20 fish vending kiosks benefitting 43 fisherwomenin connection with cochin shipyard Ltd – CSR project and with the technical support of CIFT.

Objectives:

  • To address the concerns of stale or adulterated fishes which is of constant concern for consumers.
  • To serves the purpose of selling fish at consumer’s doorstep while keeping its freshness intact.
  • To impart training in good fish handling, processing, hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • To popularize ergonomically designed kiosks for comfortable fish selling by women vendors.
